WATER for Farmers Act ensures water delivery under the 1944 Water Treaty and compensates U.S. farmers for shortfalls.

The WATER for Farmers Act aims to ensure the reliable delivery of water to the United States under the 1944 Water Treaty and provides a mechanism to compensate U.S. agricultural producers for economic losses due to water delivery shortfalls. The Secretary of State, in consultation with the U.S. Commissioner of the International Boundary and Water Commission and the Secretary of Agriculture, will determine if Mexico has delivered the required quantity of water annually. If a shortfall is found, duties will be imposed on imports of goods from Mexico.
