The Aviation-Impacted Communities Act requires the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide funding for noise mitigation in communities near airports. The Act allows communities within one mile of commercial or cargo jet routes at 3,000 feet or less above ground level to request designation as an aviation-impacted community. These communities can form boards to address aviation impacts, draft community reports, and petition for community assessments. The FAA must develop a framework and diagnostic tool for these assessments, based on a study by the National Academy of Sciences.
