H.R.8122

9–8–8 Connect Act

Introduced·3/26/26

Establishes 9-8-8 as the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline and provides grants for follow-up services.

The 9-8-8 Connect Act designates 9-8-8 as the universal telephone number for the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system. It mandates the Federal Communications Commission to ensure that commercial mobile service providers transmit all calls and texts to 9-8-8, including those from non-service-initialized handsets. The act also amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require multi-line telephone systems to support direct dialing of 9-8-8, with exceptions for systems unable to be configured without hardware or software improvements.
