Introduced·3/18/26

The CANS Act of 2026 mandates a study on aluminum recycling by the Secretary of the Interior.

The Counting Aluminum Net Surplus Act of 2026, or CANS Act of 2026, requires the Secretary of the Interior to conduct an ongoing study on the amount of aluminum disposed of in landfills. The study must be submitted to specified congressional committees every three years, starting three years after the act's enactment. Each report must include estimates of aluminum disposed of in landfills, by industrial waste sites, and automotive industry applications, as well as aluminum exported through foreign scrap purchases.
