The Nitrous Oxide Safety Act of 2026 bans the sale of consumer products containing nitrous oxide, except for uses in medical or dental treatment, commercial food production, or research and development. Nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas" or "whippits," will be considered a banned hazardous product under the Consumer Product Safety Act 180 days after the enactment of this Act. The ban does not apply to nitrous oxide used as a component of food or as a propellant in pressurized containers.
