The Local Taxpayer Protection Act of 2026 establishes a grant program to assist municipalities with facilities for processing or detaining individuals arrested or detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Grants can cover unrealized property tax revenue and public utilities costs. Eligible municipalities submit applications to the Secretary of Homeland Security, who will publish guidance and encourage joint applications for efficiency. The grant term is five years, with possible renewals.
