H.R.7640

Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act of 2026

Introduced·2/23/26

The Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act aims to enforce federal immigration law by restricting federal funding to jurisdictions that limit cooperation.

The Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act seeks to enhance federal immigration law enforcement by mandating state and local cooperation. It prohibits jurisdictions that restrict rights related to immigration status or fail to comply with federal detainers from receiving federal funds for one year. The Act also allows victims of crimes committed by deportable aliens to sue non-compliant jurisdictions. Federal, state, and local governments complying with the Act are granted immunity from lawsuits. The Act supersedes any state or local laws that conflict with its provisions.
