H.R.6986

COLAs Don’t Count Act of 2026

Introduced·1/8/26

Excludes cost-of-living adjustments and supplementary payments from income for SNAP eligibility.

The COLAs Don’t Count Act of 2026 amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to exclude certain income increases from eligibility and benefit calculations for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Specifically, it excludes cost-of-living adjustments from Social Security, Railroad Retirement, and veterans' benefits, as well as supplementary payments under the Social Security Act. This change aims to ensure that these income adjustments do not affect SNAP eligibility or benefits. The amendments will take effect on October 1, 2027.
