The Restore Trust in Government Act amends chapter 131 of title 5 to prohibit Members of Congress, the President, Vice President, and their spouses and dependents from owning or trading stocks. Covered investments include securities, commodities, futures, and comparable economic interests. Exceptions are made for certain government securities and widely held investment funds. Violations result in penalties, including fees and disgorgement of profits. Covered individuals must divest their investments within 180 days of enactment or 90 days of becoming a covered individual.
