Social Security Survivor Benefits Equity Act updates lump sum death payments and indexes them to inflation.

The Social Security Survivor Benefits Equity Act amends the Social Security Act to update the amount of lump sum death payments and index these payments to inflation. Effective January 1, 2025, the bill changes the lump sum death payment to $2,900 and adjusts it annually based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers. This change applies to individuals who die on or after the effective date.
