The Veterans’ Sentinel Act seeks to enhance the collection and analysis of data on suicides and attempted suicides by veterans on Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) property. It mandates the VA to annually evaluate statistical trends and recommend prevention strategies. The Act also requires the establishment of a working group to unify data collection processes, develop a management system for consolidating relevant data, and provide regular briefings to Congress. The working group will operate for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years.
