H.R.5745

Marine Fisheries Habitat Protection Act

Introduced·10/14/25

Marine Fisheries Habitat Protection Act promotes fish habitat by enhancing certain offshore oil and gas platforms and pipelines as artificial reefs.

The Marine Fisheries Habitat Protection Act amends the National Fishing Enhancement Act of 1984 to promote fish habitat through the enhancement of certain offshore oil and gas platforms and pipelines as artificial reefs. The bill allows applicants to submit a Notice of Intent to Reef an Inactive Structure to the Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. The Director must then assess the structure and determine if it is eligible for reefing. If eligible, the Director designates the structure as an Approved Structure.
