The Patients Deserve Price Tags Act amends the Public Health Service Act to require hospitals and insurers to disclose price information. Hospitals must provide itemized bills to patients, including the gross charge, payer-specific negotiated charges, and the amount the plan is responsible for paying. Insurers must provide a good faith estimate of the amount the plan is responsible for paying for items and services. The bill also requires hospitals to make public their standard charges and prices for items and services, including the discounted cash price.
