Connor’s Law

Introduced·5/23/25

Connor’s Law mandates English proficiency for commercial motor vehicle drivers.

Connor’s Law amends title 49 of the United States Code to require commercial motor vehicle drivers to demonstrate sufficient English proficiency. Drivers must be able to converse with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to inquiries, and make entries on reports and records. Noncompliant drivers will be declared out of service. This change does not affect out-of-service orders not covered by the new language requirement.
