The Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act imposes criminal and immigration penalties for intentionally fleeing a pursuing Federal officer while operating a motor vehicle. It makes evading a pursuing U.S. Border Patrol agent within 100 miles of the U.S. border a federal offense. Penalties include imprisonment up to 2 years, fines, or both. If serious bodily injury results, the penalty increases to imprisonment of 5 to 20 years. If death results, the penalty is imprisonment of 10 years to life.
