Religious Workforce Protection Act extends nonimmigrant status for religious workers with long-delayed lawful permanent residence applications.

The Religious Workforce Protection Act allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to extend nonimmigrant status for religious workers affected by long backlogs in processing their lawful permanent residence applications. This extension applies to those who have already been in the U.S. for five years under nonimmigrant status and are eligible for immigrant status without numerical limitations. The Act also exempts these workers from the one-year foreign residence requirement if they leave the U.S. due to the five-year limit.
