The I CAN Act expands access to healthcare services provided by advanced practice registered nurses under Medicare and Medicaid.

The Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act, also known as the I CAN Act, amends titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act to enhance access to services provided by advanced practice registered nurses. It allows nurse practitioners to certify post-hospital extended care services and be reimbursed by Medicare for evaluation and management services. The Act also authorizes nurse practitioners to care for Medicare and Medicaid inpatient hospital patients and removes unnecessary supervision requirements for certified registered nurse anesthetists.
