The American Renewable Energy Act of 2026 amends the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 to establish a Federal renewable electricity standard for retail electricity suppliers. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) must promulgate regulations to implement and enforce this standard. Retail electricity suppliers must submit Federal renewable electricity credits to FERC to comply with the standard. The bill also allows for alternative compliance payments in lieu of submitting credits.
