The 16 & Up Social Media Act prohibits social media platforms from allowing users under 16 to create or maintain accounts or profiles. Platforms must identify and notify users under 16 within 180 days of enactment, then terminate their accounts within 30 days. Users under 16 can appeal account termination within 60 days of enactment. Platforms must delete personal data of terminated users and provide a copy of the data within 90 days. The Federal Trade Commission enforces the Act, preempting state laws that conflict with it.
