The bill establishes a program to address sickle cell disease and other heritable hemoglobinopathies by creating Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Centers. These centers will use a hub-and-spoke framework to provide coordinated, lifelong health care for patients. The program will also develop a national strategy for equitable care, collect and maintain data on sickle cell disease, and conduct public health awareness and education activities. The Secretary of Health and Human Services will award grants to eligible entities, prioritizing regions with a disproportionate number of patients.
