The Suicide Prevention Act authorizes a pilot program to expand and intensify surveillance of self-harm in partnership with State and local public health departments. It establishes a grant program to provide self-harm and suicide prevention services in hospital emergency departments. It also requires the Secretary to evaluate suicide and self-harm syndromic surveillance systems and submit a report to Congress. The Act authorizes appropriations for these purposes.
