H.R.7892

No Aid for Ghost Students Act of 2026

Chamber Passed·6/11/26

The No Aid for Ghost Students Act of 2026 mandates identity fraud detection for FAFSA applicants.

The No Aid for Ghost Students Act of 2026 amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to require the Secretary of Education to use an identity fraud detection system to review each Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine if it presents a reasonable suspicion of identity fraud. If such a suspicion is found, the Secretary must notify the applicant and the institutions they designated. Institutions will not disburse federal financial aid unless the applicant confirms their identity through in-person or live, synchronous audiovisual verification.
