The SAFE Act mandates annual reports on elderly falls and expands Medicare to include physical and occupational therapy in wellness visits.
The Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly Act, or SAFE Act, requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to submit annual reports to Congress on falls among individuals aged 65 and older. These reports will include data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and describe any changes in falls risk assessments and prevention services. The bill also amends Medicare to include physical therapists and occupational therapists as health professionals for annual wellness visits and initial preventive physical exams, effective from January 1, 2026.
