SB172 amends Title 29 of the Delaware Code concerning the Office of Defense Services. It sets the term of the Chief Defender at 8 years for appointments made after July 1, 2015. The Chief Defender is authorized to fix the compensation of appointed persons and ensure assistant attorneys' pay is at least equal to Deputy Attorneys General. Salaried attorneys are barred from private practice outside their duties, with a phase-out period for those already in private practice as of January 1, 2015, ending on May 28, 2025.
