Delaware SB156 amends the Medical Debt Protection Act to prevent medical creditors and debt collectors from reporting medical debt to consumer reporting agencies for a year after the consumer is first billed or three months after the last payment, whichever is later. The act aims to protect patients from the negative impacts of medical debt on their credit, employment, and housing decisions. It also prohibits medical debt buyers from charging interest on the debt and from engaging in extraordinary collection actions.
