California SB899 creates a Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force to assess the health costs and impacts of wildfire smoke using existing data. The task force will estimate the number of emergency room visits and deaths from wildfire smoke since July 1, 2018, develop a cost estimate for related health care costs, and create a model to determine the health benefits of achieving the goals in the state’s “Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan.” The task force will also make recommendations to increase the plan’s health benefits and include the assessment in the next update to the action.
