Allows substitute teachers to retain coverage under the Public Employees’ Retirement System.
This bill amends the Government Code to allow substitute teachers to retain coverage under the Public Employees’ Retirement System. Substitute teachers with a valid permit and who do not exceed 30 days per year teaching are eligible to elect this coverage. The election must be made within 60 days of hire and applies to service requiring membership in the State Teachers’ Retirement Plan. The election remains in effect until January 1, 2024.
