California SB406 modifies the Elections Code to adjust deadlines for receiving vote-by-mail ballots. Ballots must be returned to the elections official by 8 p.m. on election day. If a ballot is postmarked or time/date stamped by a bona fide private mail delivery company on or before election day, it is considered timely. Additionally, ballots received by the elections official via the U.S. Postal Service or a bona fide private mail delivery company up to three days after election day are also considered timely if they meet the postmark or time/date stamp criteria.
