California SB39 prohibits the sale of cosmetics containing specific chemicals starting January 1, 2025. These include Dibutyl phthalate, Diethylhexyl phthalate, Formaldehyde, Paraformaldehyde, Methylene glycol, Quaternium-15, Mercury, and Lily aldehyde. Starting January 1, 2027, Acetaldehyde and musk ketone will also be banned. The bill allows trace amounts of these chemicals if they are unavoidable impurities.
