SB225 would establish a process for the California Department of Education to reimburse summer meal program operators for meals served to guardians of eligible pupils. Reimbursements would be adjusted annually for inflation and would require the guardian to be present at the meal site, unless noncongregate rules are in place. If appropriations are insufficient, reimbursements would be prioritized for guardians under 22 years of age and those caring for pupils in high-poverty areas.
