Mexican prepaid health plans can operate in California under certain conditions.
California AB955 amends the Health and Safety Code to allow Mexican prepaid health plans to operate in the state. These plans must apply for licensure, maintain a minimum tangible net equity, and comply with California and U.S. laws. They can offer employer-sponsored group contracts to Mexican nationals and others legally employed in San Diego or Imperial counties. The plans must also make their books and records available to the director, maintain a fidelity bond, and employ a medical director licensed in California.
