California AB794 amends the California Safe Drinking Water Act to allow the state board to adopt emergency regulations for safe drinking water standards. These regulations can be based on federal standards in effect on January 19, 2025, and must not be less stringent. The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment must establish public health goals for contaminants in the emergency regulation. The state board must adopt an emergency regulation and primary drinking water standard for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances by December 31, 2026.
