California AB764 allows taking and possessing mute swans without a hunting license until 2031.
California AB764 amends the Fish and Game Code to allow the taking and possession of mute swans, a nongame bird, without a hunting license, similar to English sparrows and starlings. Until January 1, 2031, landowners, lessees, or their agents on their property do not need a hunting license or depredation permit to take these birds. Others must be licensed. The Department of Fish and Wildlife encourages reporting of mute swans taken or possessed and will collect enforcement action information.
