California AB751 extends rest period exemptions for safety-sensitive employees at petroleum facilities.
AB751 amends the Labor Code to extend indefinitely the exemption from rest period requirements for employees in safety-sensitive positions at petroleum facilities. These employees must carry communication devices and respond to emergencies or remain on premises. If their rest period is interrupted by an emergency, another rest period must be authorized promptly, or the employer must pay one hour of regular pay. The bill applies to employees covered by Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Order No. 1 and valid collective bargaining agreements.
