The California Musk Reduction Act amends the Health and Safety Code to ban specific chemicals in cosmetic products. Starting January 1, 2025, manufacturers and sellers cannot offer products containing dibutyl phthalate, diethylhexyl phthalate, formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, methylene glycol, quaternium-15, mercury, or musk ketone above certain limits. Starting January 1, 2027, additional chemicals like cyclohexylamine, phytonadione, and styrene are banned. The act also includes warnings for products with boric acid.
