California AB546 requires large group health care service plans to cover one portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) purifier for enrollees who are pregnant or diagnosed with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) if they reside in or are displaced from a county where a local or state emergency has been declared due to wildfires. The HEPA purifier must be prescribed by the enrollee’s health care provider. The cost of the purifier cannot exceed $500, adjusted for inflation. This provision applies to plans issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
