California AB460 allows certified radiologic technologists to perform venipuncture in an upper extremity to administer contrast materials under direct supervision of a licensed physician and surgeon. The facility must have safety protocols and personnel capable of responding to adverse events. The supervising physician and surgeon can be physically present or available via audio and video communication. The radiologic technologist must complete 10 hours of training and perform 10 venipunctures under personal supervision before being deemed competent.
