California AB434, known as the Safe and Secure Battery Storage Act, prohibits public agencies from authorizing the construction of battery energy storage facilities before January 1, 2028. After this date, public agencies must require that any battery energy storage facility construction meets guidelines and minimum standards adopted by the State Fire Marshal to prevent fires and protect nearby communities.
