Exempts certain forest management projects from California Environmental Quality Act review.
California AB404 exempts prescribed fire, reforestation, habitat restoration, thinning, or fuel reduction projects from the California Environmental Quality Act. These projects must be carried out on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire. The bill also exempts projects funded by the Nature-Based Solutions Tribal Program or tribal cultural burn and wildfire funding. The lead agency must file a notice of exemption with the Office of Planning and Research Land Use and Climate Innovation and the county clerk, and post it on its internet website.
