California AB2563 expands the definition of sex discrimination to include discrimination based on assigned sex or gender category, degree of conformity to sex or gender stereotypes, gender identity, gender expression, access to gender affirming care, pregnancy or related medical conditions, decisionmaking, and use of reproductive health services. It also includes variations in sex characteristics, sexual orientation, and perimenopause or menopause. The bill ensures that any provision prohibiting sex, gender, or similar discrimination is interpreted to also prohibit sex discrimination.
