California AB2228 amends the Health and Safety Code to create a spinal cord injury research fund, independent of the State Treasury, for public and private contributions. Funds from the California Stem Cell Research, Treatments, and Cures Bond Act of 2020 can be deposited into this fund. The act appropriates $5 million from the General Fund to this research fund, to be spent at a rate of $1 million per year starting in the 2026–27 fiscal year. This funding will remain in effect until July 1, 2031, and will be repealed on January 1, 2032.
