California AB2017 establishes new state holidays for Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Genocide Remembrance Day, Diwali, and Native American Day. These holidays are paid holidays for state employees if they are in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday. The bill also allows community colleges to close on these holidays if the governing board agrees. The designation of these holidays does not require any person or public institution to participate in a ceremony, event, or other activity.
