California AB1763 amends the Education Code to allow excused absences for middle and high school students for religious observances, participation in cultural ceremonies, civic or political events, and other specified reasons. A student can be excused for one schoolday per religious observance per semester. Other reasons for excused absences include illness, quarantine, medical appointments, funeral services, jury duty, military entrance processing, and more. Students must notify the school ahead of the absence.
