California AB1456 mandates the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection to update the California Vegetation Treatment Program Final Program Environmental Impact Report (FPEIR) by January 1, 2027. The update must integrate indigenous knowledge and tribal ecological knowledge into vegetation management activities, and recognize cultural burning as a covered treatment activity. The FPEIR will also expand the treatable landscape to include areas suitable for ecological restoration, fuel breaks, and wildland-urban interface fuel reduction.
