California AB1382, known as the Ethics Over Aesthetics Act, prohibits the import, sale, or offer for sale of transgenic pet animals that possess cosmetic transgenic traits. These traits include alterations to the animal's appearance or natural functions, such as novel fur or feather coloring, removal of claws or vocal cords, or addition or subtraction of appendages. Exceptions are made for transgenic traits that benefit the animal's health or enhance interaction with humans without altering natural functions.
