Arizona SB1652 amends vehicle regulation to set civil penalties for collisions caused by overtaking bicycles improperly.

Arizona SB1652 amends section 28-735 of the Arizona Revised Statutes to clarify that drivers overtaking bicycles must leave at least three feet of space. The bill introduces civil penalties for collisions resulting from improper overtaking: up to $500 for serious physical injury and up to $1,000 for death. These penalties do not apply if the collision occurs in a designated bicycle lane or path.
