SB1287

Stock watering; active management areas

Chamber Passed·2/24/26

Arizona SB1287 allows groundwater withdrawal for domestic and stock watering purposes in active management areas.

Arizona SB1287 amends the Arizona Revised Statutes to allow holders of irrigation grandfathered rights to withdraw up to ten acre-feet of groundwater annually for domestic and stock watering purposes in active management areas. This groundwater can only be used on the same land and for the same purpose as before the area was designated. If the groundwater is separately measured, it is exempt from conservation requirements. The right to withdraw groundwater is tied to the irrigation grandfathered right and can be leased or conveyed with it.
