SB1253

Safe haven providers; hospital deliveries

Complete·6/19/26

Arizona SB1253 amends laws regarding safe haven providers for newborns, including protocols for placement and reimbursement.

Arizona SB1253 amends sections 8-528 and 13-3623.01 of the Arizona Revised Statutes to establish protocols for safe haven providers who accept newborn infants. Safe haven providers include firefighters, emergency medical technicians, hospitals, and churches. These providers must transport the infant to a hospital for examination and notify the Department of Child Safety. If the Arizona health care cost containment system does not reimburse the hospital, the entity taking custody of the infant must compensate the hospital.
