Arizona SB1087 amends the aquifer protection program to exempt helium exploration and production wells from permit requirements.

Arizona SB1087 amends the aquifer protection program to exempt helium exploration and production wells from permit requirements if they are designed, constructed, operated, and maintained to not discharge a contaminant into an aquifer. The bill also exempts the Department of Environmental Quality from rulemaking requirements for one year after the act's effective date. The legislature reaffirms the public policy of conserving and developing natural resources, including helium.
