HB2789 amends Arizona's nominating procedures by allowing candidates to pay a filing fee in lieu of submitting nomination petitions. Beginning with the 2028 elections, candidates who would otherwise need to file a partisan or nonpartisan nomination petition can pay a fee to the filing officer. The secretary of state will establish the fee amount and provide a form for candidates to sign and submit with the payment. Upon payment, the candidate's name will be placed on the ballot as if they had submitted sufficient nomination petition signatures.
